Arkansas State Contractor License Regulations

Any construction project costing $20,000 or more requires a licensed contractor. To find out if a contractor is licensed by the State of Arkansas, or to obtain an application to become a contractor, contact the Contractors Licensing Board, or call (501) 372-4661. An application to become a contractor in the state will request a financial statement, statement on your experience, and professional references. Residential builders will need at least four years experience, and pass a business and law exam.  There is a $100 application fee.  Before performance of any service in the state, a contractor must file with the Contractors Licensing Board, a surety bond of a surety authorized to do business in the state or cash bond. The bond shall be a condition of licensure and a contractor's license shall not be released until the bond has been properly filed. The bond will be in a penal sum of $10,000.00 and payable to the State of Arkansas.For questions concerning workers' compensation insurance you may contact the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission, or call them toll free at 800-622-4472.  Arkansas has reciprocity with Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee. All contractors are required to pass the OSHA exam. Out of State contractors are required to register with the Arkansas Secretary of State, or call (501) 682-3409 for more information.
